Lou Donaldson's improvisation:
Don't you know that when you look at me, my heart becomes impassioned just like an
aeroplane that's passing out and going through the roof
Of beloved rationality and decency and when my brain explodes,
You stand by me and watch them blowing away – the pieces of the card house:
Waltzing swiftly, turning lightly, like a leaf that's left its tree,
So elegantly, absently, swirls around the trunk, and, carried by the air,
It floats unto the earth to kiss it,
Exposing the crown like my bedazzled mind,
And I stand there, stripped of all control,
And, darling, that's when I realize
That I can't fight the most exciting, beautiful, thrilling, vulnerable feeling of all
And now you got me thinking:
Maybe I could hope for just a moment you may grant me your love
Even if it's unreal, don't chase away my dream yet,
Please, let me have it for a short while
Soon enough I'll tell myself:
"Just get a firm hold of yourself!"
Brutally dragged out of harmony, suddenly I wake up:
Can't you see – this never can be,
Let it go, forget about it, tells my rigid mind,
But effortlessly, I quickly defy it,
Since you have me melting away under your unconditional gift of charming tenderness,
Loving attitude, pure and clever mind,
You radiate all happiness and joy to everyone around,
But you don't belong to me and there's no going back
Yet can't afford to miss you for a second, or I would feel awfully morose
Can you mitigate my agony by letting me stay close to you, so that I can feel your precious blissful presence?
I can't believe for how long I failed to see the splendid universe that you ignited just for me!
Darling, will you, please, let me love you?
This sole concession I ask for, even though I know I'm a fool; I hope it's not too late to turn to your love and I pray that you won't tell me I don't stand any chance in this mad one way romance.
Though it took a while till I felt it: now I'm sure, I won't let you go, it's you I long for my divine, my love.
Tell me, is there any hope that you may change your mind and choose to be with me, though I turned you down?
Clifford Brown's improvisation:
It has been beyond my grasp how it ever could be considered shameful just loving someone, offering selflessly one's heart, even if the other can't accept the generous gift of love, clearly the giver should be never reprimanded
Too bad you didn't love me when I cared so much about you I would give all my life
To be beside you all the time, to love no one but you, to be true to you till I die
Now that I have given this vow, it belongs to someone else till the end
Lou Donaldson phrase:
Darling, please, forgive my negligence, and, please, just let me make it up to you
Sadly it's too late, my dear, and though I still love you, I can't be with you and destroy the happiness and closeness I've created with another, forgive me
Time closes some doors, but always opens up some new
So promise never ever to treat lightly that someone who loves you
Give it some thought and some time and perhaps you'll come to understand
That someone's going to your head.
